Pioneers go cold at UW-Eau Claire

UW-Eau Claire broke open a three-point game with a 15-0 run to start the second half and beat visiting UW-Platteville 49-37 Saturday before 1,422 fans in Zorn Arena.

The Blugolds led 21-18 at the break, then held the Pioneers scoreless for the first 5:49 of the second half while expanding the margin to 36-18. The Pioneers came no closer than the final 12-point margin.

Liz Van Drasek led the Blugolds (10-10, 5-6 WIAC) with 13 points, while Amanda Zenner had 11 points, and Heidi Arciszewski totaled 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Liz Tesch had nine points for the Pioneers, who were held under 40 points for the first time since UW-Oshkosh did the trick in a 70-39 game on Jan. 19, 2000. Rachel Korth grabbed eight rebounds, while Emily Adrian dished out three assists and had two steals.

The Pioneers (8-10, 4-6 WIAC) return to Williams Fieldhouse Wednesday to face UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m.
