Pioneers win on Senior Day

UW-Platteville's Michelle Hardyman scored a career-high 19 points, including back-to-back three-point shots that gave the Pioneers the lead for good in a 60-51 victory over visiting UW-Superior Saturday.

The Yellowjackets, however, were the ones with the hot start, vaulting out to a 8-2 lead. UWP battled from behind the whole first half, taking its only lead at the break, 29-28.

UW-Superior forged a 40-38 lead before Hardyman drained two three-point shots within 30 seconds of each other for a 44-40 advantage. After two Kaiser baskets and one Yellowjacket free throw, Hardyman nailed another three-point basket that ballooned the lead to 51-41. UWS came no closer than eight the rest of the game.

The Pioneers improved to 10-12 overall and 6-9 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Yellowjackets fell to 4-18, 0-14.

Kaiser added 14 points and three assists to Hardyman's 19 points, while freshman Lisa Grantman registered 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Katie Moench led UW-Superior with 13 points, while Ashley Laidley added 11, and Jenny Carlson grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
