Short-handed Pioneers fall

Nov. 19, 2005

A short-handed UW-Platteville basketball team lost 52-48 to host Lake Forest in the championship game of the Forest Tip-Off Tournament Saturday.

The Pioneers played without starting guards Lisa Wubben and Emily Adrian, who had played sparingly Friday as well.

Instead, the Pioneers turned inside, and junior center Liz Tesch responded with a career-high 23 points on 10-14 shooting. Holly Kaiser, who was named to the all-tournament team, added 12 points and nine rebounds, while freshman Lisa Grantman had six points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Foresteers' Andrea Durante made two free throws with 1:02 to play to give the Illinois school a 47-45 lead. Kaiser brought the Pioneers within 49-48 on a layup with 31 seconds left, but Lizzy Bauer made one of two free shots, and Devon Liebel made a pair to seal the win.

The 1-1 Pioneers play at St. Ambrose Tuesday night.
