Pioneers fall in final seconds

January 29, 2005

Thomas More College scored the final seven points of the game, including Brooke Warner's pull-up jump shot with five seconds remaining, to beat UW-Platteville 61-60 Saturday afternoon in Williams Fieldhouse.

The Pioneers' Emily Adrian was run over setting a screen with 2.4 seconds left. She missed the front end of a bonus situation at the line. The Pioneers' Holly Kaiser grabbed the rebound, but Warner blocked her field-goal attempt. Lisa Wubben grabbed the ball, but her desperation heave was well off at the buzzer.

The Saints, an NCAA III playoff team a year ago, improved to 12-7 overall. The Pioneers fell to 10-9.

Kaiser led all scorers with 20 points, matching her career high. Shannon Boatman added 16 points and seven rebounds. Both Kaiser and Boatman had four assists. Wubben added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Carrie Clift made all seven shots from the field and all three from the line to lead the Kentucky visitors with 17 points. Megan Wood added 15 points, while Allison Byars scored 10.

The Pioneers will be back in action Wednesday at UW-La Crosse. The UWP men play first at 5:45 p.m., and the women will follow at approximately 8 p.m.
