Pioneers' streak snapped at Oshkosh

January 5, 2005

Beating two undefeated teams in less than a week proved to be too much of a task for UW-Platteville, who lost 58-49 at third-ranked UW-Oshkosh Wednesday.

The Pioneers, who beat 14-0 Concordia (Neb.) New Year's Eve to win the Clarke College Holiday Tournament, had their seven-game winning streak snapped by the Titans. UWO improved to 14-0 overall and 5-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Pioneers fell to 9-3, 2-2.

UWP gave the first-place Titans all they could handle, hanging within single digits much of the night. Lisa Wubben scored four straight points, bringing the Pioneers within 48-42 with 5:55 remaining. The Titans' Brittany Herrick and Kristi Mader answered with back-to-back baskets, and UWP could get no closer than seven the rest of the way.

Holly Kaiser led all scorers with 14 points, while Michelle Hardyman scored 11. Shannon Boatman added nine points and 11 rebounds for the Pioneers.

UW-Oshkosh was led by Shannon Eggers with 11 and Kelly O'Keef with 10.

UW-Platteville plays at UW-Eau Claire Saturday at 7:30 p.m. before beginning a six-game homestand Wednesday vs. UW-La Crosse.
