Pioneers break through vs. UW-La Crosse

UW-Platteville got back on the road and got back into the win column, coming from behind to beat UW-La Crosse 56-55 Wednesday in Mitchell Hall.

The Pioneers snapped a five-game losing streak, all of which occurred in Williams Fieldhouse. UWP improved to 8-3 away from its home gym.

Lisa Wubben capped off a 10-2 run with the game-winning basket with 1:15 remaining, and the defense shut down the Eagles the rest of the way. Nicole Palmer missed a game-winning attempt at the buzzer for the Eagles, who did not get a field goal over the final 6:54.

UW-Platteville improved to 11-9 overall and 4-7 in the conference, while UW-La Crosse fell to 10-10, 3-8.

Shannon Boatman recorded her seventh double-double of the season, with 16 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Holly Kaiser also scored 16 points, while Wubben had 14.

Shawna Koss led the Eagles with 13 points, and Palmer finished with 12.

The Pioneers will seek to continue their road success Saturday at UW-Superior for a 1 p.m. game.
