Big second-half carries Pioneers

UW-Platteville scored the first 11 points of the second half and never trailed again en route to a 66-38 victory over Dubuque Friday afternoon in the Mississippi River Challenge at Loras College.

The Pioneers trailed 27-26 at intermission before exploding in the second half. UWP outscored the Spartans 40-11 in the final 20 minutes, holding UD to just four baskets in 26 shots.

The victory was the first for new Pioneer Coach Tina Kuhle and evened the Pioneers' record at 1-1.

Shannon Boatman, the lone senior on the squad, led the Pioneers with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Holly Kaiser had 15 points, and Lisa Wubben added 11.

Jennifer Bell paced the Spartans (1-2) with nine points.

The Pioneers close the Mississippi River Challenge Saturday by playing the host Duhawks at 6 p.m.
