Pioneers Upset No. 15 Loras
DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s basketball team (4-2) upset the No. 15 national ranked Loras College (4-2) 71-57 on Saturday. Holding on to a two-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter, the Pioneers outshot Loras 21-9 in the final 10 minutes to defeat the Duhawks for the second consecutive season.

Holding on to a two-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter, the Pioneers outshot Loras 21-9 in the final 10 minutes to defeat the Duhawks for the second consecutive season.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 23-13 lead after one quarter behind a 14-4 run. The Duhawks drew within one, 28-27, with two minutes remaining in the half, but a layup and made free throw by sophomore Ella Mackiewicz gave the Pioneers a 31-27 lead at the half.
Sophomore Madalyn Reichmann's three pointer extended the Pioneers' lead to 40-33 midway through the third quarter, but back-to-back layups by Madison Haslow made it a one possession game at the quarter break.
A made three-pointer by junior Brianna Prieve started off the Pioneers' final ten minutes and Reichmann and senior Sarah Mueller followed up with a jump shot and layup. Mackiewicz added a three-pointer and layup while junior Brynlee Nelson joined in with a three-pointer after a steal by Reichmann.
The Duhawks never led outside of the first three minutes of the game.
Reichmann led the Pioneers behind a double-double and two career highs of 21 points and 10 rebounds. Mackiewicz added 19 points while Nelson hit double figures with 10 points.
UW-Platteville shot 45.5 percent (25-of-55) from the floor in the game and 43.5 percent (10-of-23) from beyond the arc. For the second consecutive game, the Pioneers were especially strong in the second half, shooting 63.6 percent (14-of-22) from the field along with 55.6 percent (5-of-9) from the three-point territory.
The Pioneers return to action and Bo Ryan Court on Wednesday, Dec. 6 when they host Lake Forest at 7 p.m.
