Four Pioneers Reach Double Figures In Road Win
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – A second straight strong offensive performance sent the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s basketball team (3-1) to a second consecutive victory on Thursday night with an 83-74 road win over Augustana (Ill.) (2-2) Inside the Carver PE Center in Rock Island, Illinois.

Senior Sarah Mueller scored seven points in the first quarter as the Pioneers held a 20-17 advantage after the first 10 minutes. UW-Platteville made four of nine three-point attempts in the quarter and turned seven Augustana turnovers into 12 points. In the second quarter, a seven-point UW-Platteville run, capped by a three from sophomore Allison Wokatsch, pushed the lead up to 11 at 33-22 with just under five minutes until halftime. The Vikings were able to get back within five for 38-33 score at halftime.
Sophomore Ella Mackiewicz had a strong third quarter, scoring seven points on 3-of-3 shooting to help the Pioneers lead 54-45 entering the final frame. Augustana scored 29 points in the fourth, but UW-Platteville answered with 29 of its own to maintain the nine-point edge. The Pioneers shot 77.8 percent (7-of-9) in the quarter and went 13-of-19 from the free throw line to eliminate any chance of a comeback. Sophomore Madalyn Reichmann finished with eight in the quarter, while junior Barb Kling added seven.
Four Pioneers reached double figures in the win, with Mueller and Mackiewicz tying for the team lead with 17 apiece. Kling posted 12 points on a perfect 3-of-3 shooting, while junior Brynlee Nelson also finished with 12.
UW-Platteville shot at least 50.0 percent (29-of-58) for the second straight game, including a 60.9 percent (14-of-23) mark in the second half. The Pioneers posted season-high marks in three-pointers made with 10 and free throws made with 15 in the contest.
Mueller and Reichmann tied for the team lead in rebounds with seven, while Kling dished out a team-high five assists.
The Pioneers will play their home opener next Tuesday, November 21 when Millikin comes to town for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
