Pioneers fall in OT
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team fell 73-71 in OT against University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Saturday afternoon on Bo Ryan Court.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team fell 73-71 in OT on Saturday afternoon against University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
The Pioneers fall to 10-13 overall (4-8 WIAC) while the Falcons improve to 8-15 overall (2-10 WIAC).
After one quarter the Pioneers led by 10 points and by halftime they extended the lead to 12. The Pioneers had their largest lead of 15 points with 2:59 remaining in the second quarter. The Pioneers held the lead until the 7:12 left in the fourth quarter.
The Pioneers trailed five points within the last minute and sophomore Maiah Domask scored to cut the lead to 59-56 with :26 remaining. Junior Morgan Horstman score the inbound pass and found Domask who was fouled and made her first free throw. Domask missed the second free throw and after three offensive rebounds Horstman eventually tied the game at 59-59.
Overtime was all back and forth and with :15 remaining junior Rachel Emendorfer assisted freshman Kaite Asche on a layup to give the Pioneers a 71-70 lead. The Falcons' Tessa Hubbard knocked down a 3-pointer with :08 remaining that proved to be the game winner.
Horstman finished with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Domask had 16 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Caitlyn Tipton also had 16 points five rebounds and led the team with three steals.
The Pioneers return to action at home when they host the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Wednesday, February 13 at 7 p.m.
