Pioneers cruise to victory over Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, IOWA - University of Wisconsin-Platteville defeated host Cornell 73-54 on Saturday in the Multi-Sport Center.
The Pioneers (5-4) built a 46-22 lead over the Rams (2-7) at halftime by shooting 58.6 percent from the field and knocking down 8-of-11 3-point attempts.
The Pioneers lead 21-14 after the first quarter and blew the game open with a 25-8 second quarter. Sophomore Maiah Domask and junior Morgan Horstman led the way with eight points a piece in the first half.
Despite cooling off in the second half, the Pioneers still finished the night shooting 49.1 percent from the field and 50 percent (10-of-20) from 3-point range. Freshman Allison Heckert was an efficient 3-of-4 from downtown in just 14 minutes off the bench.
Domask led all scorers with 14 points while Horstman (12), senior Kassie Hansen (12) and sophomore Jai Clemons (11) also scored in double digits. Domask also finished with a game-high 11 rebounds to record a double-double and added two steals on the defensive end.
Junior Rachel Emendorfer and sophomore Caitlyn Tipton were the main distributors offensively and finished with five and four assists, respectively. Tipton led the team with three steals.
The Pioneers head to the Bronx, New York on Dec. 28 & 29 to play in the Lehman College Coaches vs. Cancer tournament. On Dec. 28, they face DeSales at 12 pm while the matchup on the 29th is TBA.
