Pioneers fall to No. 15 Wartburg on opening day
WAVERLY, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s basketball team opened the 2018 season with a 49-66 loss to preseason ranked No. 15 Wartburg women’s basketball.

WAVERLY, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team opened the 2018 season with a 49-66 loss to preseason ranked No. 15 Wartburg.
Although the Knights sped off to a 13-2 lead with just 3:30 left in the first quarter, the Pioneers came back to give Wartburg the slim 31-29 lead at the half before building up a 41-37 lead in the third. The Knights took back the lead by the start to the final quarter and outshot the Pioneers 21-6 to secure the 66-49 win.
Morgan Horstman paced the Pioneers with 15 points while both Caitlyn Tipton and Kassie Hansen tallied up 10 apiece. Maiah Domask led the Pioneers on the glass with 10 rebounds.
Defensively, the UW-Platteville stacked up 17 steals and added 20 points off turnovers.
The Pioneers will take the week off and return to action in the first home game of the season Saturday, Nov. 17 against Concordia Wisconsin. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Bo Ryan Court.
