Three Pioneers earn postseason honors
MADISON, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin–Platteville's Megan Hartman, Morgan Horstman and Allison Prestegaard were named to the 2016–17 All–Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Basketball Team that was voted on by league coaches and announced on Wednesday.
MADISON, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin–Platteville's Morgan Hartman, Morgan Horstman and Allison Prestegaard were named to the 2016–17 All–Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Basketball Team that was voted on by league coaches and announced on Wednesday.
Hartman received honorable mention and was named to the eight-player WIAC All-Sportsmanship team. Horstman and Prestegaard also received honorable mention accolades and Prestegaard was named to the five-player WIAC All-Defensive team.
Hartman, a senior guard from Rochester, Minn., averaged 9.0 points, 5.0 rebounds (second on the team) and 1.5 assists. She shot 34.7 percent from the field (78 of 225) and made a team-high 40 3-pointers (which was second in the WIAC) on 104 attempts (38.5 percent). She also finished second on the team with a 76.9 free throw percentage (30 of 39) and collected 22 steals, which was also second on the team. Hartman is a two-time selection to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship team.
Horstman, a sophomore guard from Bangor, led the team in scoring with 323 points and finishe seventh in the conference with an average of 12.9 points per game. She also averaged 4.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists in a team-high 27.7 minutes per game, while shooting 38.6 percent (112 of 290) from the field and 71.2 percent (75 of 105) from the free throw line.
Prestegaard, a 6'4" sophomore center from Amboy, Ill., earned all-defensive honors after leading the WIAC with 96 blocked shots (4.0), which set a UW–Platteville school record and is currently fourth in the nation in Division 3. She became only the fifth player in program history to earn all-defensive honors. Prestegaard also averaged 9.3 points and a team-best 6.2 rebounds (9th in the WIAC) per game for the Pioneers. She shot 42.9 percent (88 of 205) from the field and 66.7 percent (46 of 69) from the free throw line.
Coach Megan Wilson's Pioneers finished the season 6–19 overall and 2–12 in the WIAC.
UW–Oshkosh senior guard Taylor Schmidt was selected the Player of the Year, while UW–Oshkosh head coach Brad Fischer was named the WIAC Coach of the Year. UW–La Crosse senior MaKenzie Miller received the Badgerland Financial Judy Kruckman Scholar–Athlete award.
