Meland, Hansen post career highs in loss at #13 UW–Oshkosh
OSHKOSH, Wis — Freshman Miranda Meland scored a career-high 12 points to lead the University of Wisconsin–Platteville women’s basketball team in a 72–51 WIAC loss at 13th-ranked UW–Oshkosh Wednesday night.
OSHKOSH, Wis — Freshman Miranda Meland scored a career-high 12 points and passed out a team-high three assists to lead the University of Wisconsin–Platteville women's basketball team in a 72–51 WIAC loss at 13th-ranked UW–Oshkosh Wednesday night.
Playing in just her third game of the season, Meland made 4 of 6 3-point attempts Wednesday night to account for her 12 points in just 11 minutes off the bench.
Sophomore forward Kassie Hansen (La Crosse) scored a season-high 11 points and grabbed two rebounds in defeat. Sophomore center Allison Prestegaard (Amboy, Ill.) added four points, grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and had three blocks for the Pioneers.
Senior Morgan Hartman (Rochester, Minn.) had six points and nine rebounds in her return to action after missing most of the fourth quarter in Saturday's 62–61 win over UW–River Falls with an ankle injury. Nine different players scored for UW–Platteville and all 15 Pioneers saw action.
UW–Oshkosh's Taylor Schmidt made back-to-back jump shots two minutes into the game to give the Titans an early 6–5 lead and UWO never trailed again. UWO lead 18–9 after one quarter of play and held a 38–17 halftime advantage.
Schmidt scored a game-high 18 points in just 18 minutes of action on 7 of 10 shooting to lead the Titans to victory. Kylie Moe added 10 points off the bench.
UW–Oshkosh improved to 13–1 overall and 3–0 in the WIAC, while UW–Platteville fell to 5–9, 1–2.
The Pioneers will return to action Saturday at home against 21st-ranked UW–Whitewater at 3 p.m. The Warhawks (13–1, 3–0 WIAC) defeated UW–Eau Claire 67–37 on Wednesday night.
