Pioneers defeat Monmouth behind Horstman's 27
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s basketball team defeated host Monmouth College in a non-conference game, 85-75 on Wednesday night.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team defeated host Monmouth College in a non-conference game, 85-75 on Wednesday night.
Sophomore guard Morgan Horstman (Bangor, Wis.) led the Pioneers with a double-double. Horstman led all scorers with a career-best 27 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Senior guard Morgan Hartman (Rochester, Min.) added 17 points for the Pioneers. Sophomore forward Kassie Hansen (La Crosse, Wis.) grabbed a game high 12 rebounds.
The Pioneers jumped out to a quick 17-3 lead in the first quarter and went on to increase their lead to 23-9.
In the second quarter, the Scots pulled in with 25-13 until Hartman knocked down a jumper and followed with a three-pointer. The Pioneers finished the first half ahead 45-29. Sophomore guard Cassie Hamer (Platteville, Wis.) scored eight points of the bench for the Pioneers in the first half.
In the third quarter, the Scots were able to pull within 10 with three minutes to go. The Pioneers were able to go on a 5-2 run to end the third quarter up 67-55.
With a minute and half left in the game, the Scots were able to pull within 77-71, but the Pioneers were able to ice the game from the line, going 6-8. The final scored read 85-75 and the Pioneers notched their third win.
The Pioneers to moved to 3-5 overall, while Monmouth dropped to 1-6 overall. The Pioneers will travel to Elmhurst College (Ill.) on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m.
