Lawinger and Poad Earn WIAC Honors
MADISON, Wis. – UW-Platteville senior guard Elizabeth Lawinger was named to the 2013 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Basketball Team on Tuesday, selected by the league coaches.
MADISON, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville senior guard Elizabeth Lawinger was named to the 2013 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Basketball Team on Tuesday, selected by the league coaches.
The Mineral Point, Wis. native, led the Pioneers in scoring (10.5 ppg.), steals (2.3 spg.) and assists (3.3 apg). Lawinger ranked second in the WIAC in steals (90) and assists (82). She ends her career in the Orange and Blue as the Pioneers all-time steals leader with 219 and set a new season record with 90 steals.
Senior guard teammate Claire Poad was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team for her display of exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.
Sophomore Rilee Schmitz was named team defensive player of the year, and freshman Taylor Lorbiecki garnered team most improved player. Lawinger was selected as team offensive player of the year, and sophomore Alyssa Krajco was given the Pioneer award for her selfless acts for the good of the team, her abilty to enhance team unity, and the enthusiasm and passion she showed day in and day out for the game of basketball.
