Eleven Pioneer track and field members prepare for Drake Relays
Platteville, Wis.- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field program will send 11 student-athletes to compete in the 112th Drake Relays. The Drake Relays, held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa, attracts the top track and field athletes from around the world to compete in this prestigious event every April.

The Drake Relays, held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa, attracts the top track and field athletes from around the world to compete in this prestigious event every April.
Justin Eichler (hammer), Cade VanHout (100-meter dash) and Alexander Walechka (discus) will compete as individuals. VanHout will be joined by Jacob Rice, Jacob Downing and Derrick Turner to compete in the 4x100-meter relay.
Gwen Orr, Madison Ahrens and Shannon Wulf will compete in the 4x100- and 4x200-meter relays. Alexis Healey is scheduled to run in the 4x100-meter relay, while Kayla Lipsey is scheduled in the 4x200-meter relay.
The 2022 Drake Relays will return to their usual format after being canceled in 2020 and an altered schedule in 2021. Athletes from high schools, colleges, universities and elite track and field athletes join the mix over four days starting on Wednesday, April 27.
Billed as one of the top track and field events in the world, the Drake Relays have seen hundreds of Olympic gold medalists including Michael Johnson, Carl Lewis, Jesse Owens, Wilma Rudolph, Frank Shorter, Gwen Torrence and Jeremy Wariner. Many more competitors have gone on to compete in the Olympic games.
