Leahy throws 6th best shot put in NCAA DIII history
Rock Island, Ill. – Over the weekend, the Pioneers traveled a partial squad of distance runners to UW-La Crosse for the 10,000m run. While the majority of the team traveled to Augustana College to compete at the Meet of Champions. Of the many great performances, the throws once again stole the show.

While the majority of the team traveled to Augustana College to compete at the Meet of Champions. Of the many great performances, the throws once again stole the show.
Brianna Leahy capitalized on the warm summery weather and threw a lifetime best of 15.34m (50-4) to win the shot put. She holds the 6th farthest shot put throw in NCAA DIII history and is ranked at No. 1 in current season standings. Leahy also won the discus with a personal best throw of 43.20m (141-9).
Cade VanHout chipped off time on his own school record in the 100m dash. VanHout won in 10.50 seconds, ranking him No. 8 at this time in NCAA DIII. VanHout also won the 200m dash, running 21.55 seconds.
Next up, the Pioneers will be traveling a group of sprinters and throwers to the Drake Relays held at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday, April 29 – Saturday, April 20. The rest of the team will compete at UW-Whitewater on Friday, April 29. For details visit letsgopioneers.com.
Highlights from this week's meets include:
Pioneer Women
Gwen Orr – First place in the 200m dash with a time of 24.75 seconds.
Kirstie Ramsey – Won the 3,000m steeple chase, finishing the race in a new personal record time of 11:42.70.
4x100m Relay – The team of Alexis Healey, Orr, Shannon Wulf, and Madison Ahrens ran 49.54 seconds, a season best time.
Jordan Meciej – Pole vaulted her way to first place with a personal best bar at the height of 3.35m (10-11.75).
Brynlee Nelson – Making her debut at collegiate track and field, she long jumped 5.36m (17-7) to take second, and she triple jumped 11.27m (36-11.75) to take third.
Kayla Lipsey – Made her debut in the heptathlon. Lipsey ran the 200m dash in 28.13 seconds, ran the 800m in 2:51.71, ran 16.33 in the 100m hurdles, high jumped 1.36m (4-5.5), long jumped 4.86m (15-11.5), threw the shot put 6.77m (22-2.5), and threw the javelin 24.89m (81-8).
Pioneer Men
Caleb Christiansen – Ran a lifetime best time of 30:52.07 in the 10,000m run at UW-La Crosse's Phil Esten Challenge.
Zach Zenner – Won the 400m dash with a personal best time of 49.26 seconds.
Bryce Bierman – Won the high jump with a clearance of 1.97m (6-5.5).
Jarrod Vis – Took third place in the pole vault with new personal best mark of 4.65m (15-3).
Ben Veverka – Placed second in the shot put with a personal best throw of 15.52m (50-11). Veverka placed third in the discus with a throw of 48.98m (160-8).
Alexander Walechka – Placed second in the discus with a throw of 50. 39m (165-4).
Will Lawrence – Won the javelin with a personal best toss of 56.65m (185-10).
Jacob Rice – Competed in this season's first decathlon. He set personal bests in the 400m dash running 51.52, the 1500m running 4:54.31, cleared 1.77m (5-9.75) in the high jump. Overall, Rice scored 6,460 points which is a new personal best score in the decathlon.
Dominic Wiebelhaus – Debuted in his first decathlon of his career. The freshman finished the 2-day, 10 event ordeal with 5,002 points.
