Pioneer track and field open 2022 season at UW-Stevens Point
Stevens Point, Wis. – The 2022 indoor track and field season began for the Pioneers at the WIAC Triangular hosted by UW-Stevens Point on Saturday, January 22. The Pioneer track and field men’s and women’s teams showed the potential for many personal best times and marks to come this season. Below are some of the highlights from the opening meet of the season.
Stevens Point, Wis. – The 2022 indoor track and field season began for the Pioneers at the WIAC Triangular hosted by UW-Stevens Point on Saturday, January 22.
The Pioneer track and field men's and women's teams showed the potential for many personal best times and marks to come this season. Below are some of the highlights from the opening meet of the season. The full list of results can be found here. The Pioneers will travel to the University of Dubuque for the Solomon W. Butler Classic on Saturday, January 29. Events will begin at 11 a.m.
Pioneer Women
Gwen Orr won the 60m dash in 7.86 seconds. She also won the 200m dash, clocking 26.14.
Brianna Leahy, competing in her first indoor season, won the shot put with 13.76m (45-1.5).
Paulina Wienke threw a personal best of 15.39m (50-6) in the weight throw to take second place.
Jordan Meciej opened the season in the pole vault, clearing 3.25m (10-8).
Grace Elvert qualified to the 60m hurdles final and ran 9.80 seconds. Elvert also high jumped 1.55m (5-1). Both are personal bests for Elvert.
Kelli Schneider marked a jump of 10.56m (34-7.75) in the triple jump.
Alexis Healey long jumped 5.11m (16-9.25) to open the season.
Pioneer Men
Cade VanHout ran a pair of indoor personal bests. First, he ran 6.90 seconds in the 60m dash. He then finished the 200m dash in 22.71 seconds.
Jacob Downing ran 51.27 in the 400m dash. Freshman Zach Zenner followed in 51.62 seconds.
Jacob Rice won the 60m hurdles in 8.55 seconds. Rice marked a jump of 6.53m (21-5.25) in the long jump. Both performances were personal bests for Rice.
Caleb Christiansen ran a personal best in the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:33.02.
Bryce Bierman and Daniel Inyang cleared 1.95m (6-4.75) in the high jump. For Inyang, this set a new personal best.
Freshman Evan Klinkner debuted in the pole vault, clearing 4.25m (13-11.25).
Adam Wildman set a personal best in the long jump, marking 6.92m (22-8.5).
Ben Veverka threw 14.23m (46-8.25) in the shot put, and a personal best in the weight throw marking 17.27m (56-8).
Alex Girard also threw a personal best in the weight throw, winning the event with a throw of 17.77m (58-3.75).
