The second annual Katie Binning Memorial 5K will lead into the Pioneers' Alumni-Intrasquad Meet on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019. We invite alumni, friends, and family of the program to join us at Williams Fieldhouse for a fun-filled day, celebrating all things that make being a Pioneer at UW-Platteville special.
In attempts to explain the Pioneer spirit and pride felt at this event, it is best exhibited in Katie Binning's story. Binning was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, earning a bachelor's degree in fine arts. She had an incredibly bright future, being involved in track and field, cross country, and art-related clubs while a student-athlete at UW-Platteville. She poured her passion of education and creativity into everything she did.
On May 30, 2012, Katie Binning passed away in a tragic car accident on her way to teach in the Mazomanie School District. Since then, the family has established the Katie Binning Memorial Scholarship to honor her and continue her legacy. All the registration contributions will be directed to the Katie Binning Memorial Scholarship Fund. Students who receive the scholarship are incoming freshmen pursuing a degree in English or art, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or greater, and reside in the counties surround Katie Binning's hometown of Abbotsford, Wis.
All participants of the Alumni-Intrasquad Meet are urged to sign-up for events via the online sign-up form. Katie Binning Memorial Run participants and donors are encouraged to use the online registration form to register for the event or make a donation to the Katie Binning Memorial Scholarship.
