Pioneer women compete at Viking Invitational
Rock Island, Ill. – The Pioneer women competed at Augustana College's Viking Invitational Friday, April 20, along with a few Pioneer men in the 10,000m run.
Three Pioneer women competed in the 100m dash. Freshman Gwen Orr came in 13.20 seconds, Tina Bean finished with a personal best of 13.28 seconds, and senior Aurora Roberson finished with a season best 13.50 seconds. In the 200m dash, Chenoa Stuhr posted a personal best time of 26.42, Orr 27.32, and Rachel Aumueller 27.69 seconds. In the 400m dash, senior Briana Iwans broke under 60 seconds running 59.72. Freshman Katheryn Holter ran the 400m in 1:01.74.
In the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles, freshman Katie Schilling ran 15.45 and 1:06.18 respectively taking third place in each event. Schilling's 400m hurdle race established a new personal record for her.
In the 800m run, Johanna Meister ran for sixth place in 2:18.70, setting a new personal best. Freshman Kaitlyn Galgon followed close behind for seventh place running a personal best of 2:19.65. Sophomores, Caitlyn Ifft ran 2:24.61 and Kayla Schneider ran a season best of 2:25.58.
Janelle Ferguson shaved off nearly 12 seconds off her personal best in the 1500m running 4:44.59. Freshman Kirstie Ramsey also ran a personal best in the 1500m of 5:11.97.
Competing in the 10,000m run, seniors Camille Felton ran 39:23.54 for fifth place and Mariah Brown for sixth place in 40:08.82. Kimberly Gutierrez ran a personal best of 40:48.55, Hannah Ihlenfeldt 41:34.28, and Brenna Kautz 42.20.69.
Junior Katie Wardinski traveled separately to UW – La Crosse to compete in the Phil Esten Challenge in a 10,000m run on Saturday, April 21. She finished in ninth place with a personal best time by nearly a minute and a half of 37:55.63.
Danielle Nelson ran a personal best time of 12:52.44 in the 3,000m steeple chase.
For the 4 x 100m relay of Holter, Orr, Aumueller, and Stuhr, the team ran 51.24. The 4 x 400m relay of Holter, Galgon, Ifft, and Meister placed tenth with a time of 4:11.92. Finally, the 4 x 800m relay of Ramsey, Schneider, Madi Shafer, and Ifft ran 11:05.95.
In the field events, junior Brittany Ehlen cleared 3.37m (11-0.75) for third place. Freshman Jordan Meciej cleared 3.07m (10-0.75).
In discus, Brianna Hall threw 36.48m (119-8). Murphy Bleymeyer threw a personal best of 35.72m (117-2), as did Jackie Bergschultz 30.48m (100-0).
In the hammer throw, Rachel Beuthin threw 41.70m (136-10) establishing a new personal best. Aspen Neisius, Bergschultz, and Lindsey Francque also threw personal bests in the hammer throw of 33.50m (109-11), 34.15m (112-0), and 33.47m (109-10) respectively.
Hall threw near her personal best in the javelin for tenth place throwing 30.08m (98-8).
The heptathlon began Friday with women competing in four events, and concluded Saturday with the final three events. Cassandra Meyer competed in her first heptathlon scoring 2,829 points over the two days. Meyer saw personal bests in three of the seven events. In the 100m hurdles she improved her time by nearly one second. In the long jump, Meyer improved her mark by over ten centimeters. In the final event of the 800m run, she ran 2:52.46 improving her time by nearly seven seconds.
The Pioneer women will travel to UW-Whitewater along with the Pioneer men to compete at the Drake Alternative meet on Saturday, April 28. The Pioneers will be preparing for the WIAC Outdoor Championships to come the weekend of May 4 hosted at UW – River Falls.
