The UW-Platteville Track and Field teams took benefit of the home field advantage to step up and win five events on day two of the WIAC Championships. The Pioneer women alone took home titles in five events over the course of the weekend, the second highest total for any women’s team at the Championships.

Two school records went down over the weekend while the Pioneers competed at Augustana. Senior Heptathlete Megan Marotz finished day 1 of the Heptathlon with a school record in the 200m while teammate Rachel Beuthin broke the shot put record. Ian LaMere traveled to UW-LaCrosse to compete in the 10,000m and came away with the fastest time of the year.

Amber Williams continued to dominate the WIAC Championships. After winning the long jump on Friday, she returned on Saturday to win the triple jump and 60m hurdles. Williams won her third triple jump title with a WIAC Championship record of 12.33m (40-5.5). She came back soon after to win the 60m hurdles in a school record 8.96. Williams currently holds indoor school records in five different events.

School records fall at Wartburg meet

The UW-Platteville track and field team traveled to Waverly, Iowa to compete in the Wartburg Indoor Select Meet Friday and Saturday. The Pioneer men competed amongst six other teams including University of St. Thomas, Wartburg College, Central College, Simpson College, University of Dubuque, and UW-River Falls. The Pioneer women competed against those teams as well as UW-La Crosse, Winona State University, and Cornell College.
