Dietz Named NFCA All-American
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Freshman Melissa Dietz of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team was named NCAA Division III Third Team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) it was announced on Wednesday evening.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Freshman Melissa Dietz of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team was named NCAA Division III Third Team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) it was announced on Wednesday evening.
Dietz becomes the first player in program history to earn All-American honors after putting together a fantastic freshman campaign for the Pioneers. The Reedsburg native has collected several awards following the season, including NFCA All-Region, WIAC Position Player of the Year, and WIAC Newcomer of the Year. Dietz finished second in the WIAC in batting average (.469), on-base percentage (.523), and slugging percentage (.857) while hitting eight home runs. She paced UW-Platteville with 25 RBI and 12 doubles and was second on the team with 26 runs scored.
Dietz tallied 14 multi-hit games on the season, including a pair of four-hit games against Minnesota-Morris on March 19 and UW-Whitewater on April 7. Between March 30 and April 22, Dietz hit safely in 15 straight games and recorded 16 RBI and six home runs over that stretch.
