Bio
Thomas Corcoran is entering his third year as the Associate Head Coach for the Men and Women’s Soccer programs at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Corcoran joined the Men’s and Women’s Staff in May of 2023.
Corcoran help guide the 2024 Men’s Soccer program to an overall record of 14-2-5 (.786) which is the highest winning percentage in program history in the NCAA era. The team placed as finalists in the WIAC Conference Tournament and for the third consecutive year they qualified for the NCAA National Tournament. The team would eventually reach the Round of 16 in the NCAA National Tournament which is tied for the furthest finish in the program’s history. The team concluded the season ranked #14 in the country. Additionally, the team was ranked #3 in shutout percentage, #7 in goal differential, #8 in team goals against average, and #27 in scoring offense. Player awards included Seth Aiken being named the Conference Goalkeeper of the Year, Alex Wano being named the Conference Defender of the Year, Danny Gutzwiller receiving 1st Team All-Region honors, Alex Wano and Seth Aiken receiving 2nd Team All-Region honors, and Ethan Dietrich receiving 3rd Team All-Region honors.
Additionally, during the 2024 season Corcoran helped led the Women’s Soccer program to a 14-3-4 record, marking a new program high. The 14 games won surpassed all previous seasons with the most wins tallied. The Pioneers went on to play in the Conference Championship back-to-back years. Arianna Lombardi, Jessica Morawski, Lexi Ward and Madison Way picked up All-Region honors on the season. Madison Way also picked up WIAC Conference Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
In the 2023 campaign, Tom helped the Men’s Soccer team to an overall record of 14-3-5 with the 10th highest strength of schedule in the country. The team would go on to finish as finalists in the Coast-To-Coast Conference Tournament. The Pioneers would finish with a Goals Against Average (GAA) of 0.77, ranking third in program history. The team also qualified for the NCAA National Tournament and was selected by the NCAA selection committee to be a host site for the first and second rounds. They would ultimately reach the Round of 32 to conclude the season. The team finished in the top 25 nationally in goal difference while finishing in the top 50 in both scoring offense and goals against. Team accomplishments included Konrad Ziaja being named the C2C Conference Defensive Player of the Year and Justin Williams being named C2C Conference Rookie of the Year. Individually, they would pick up All Conference Awards with Danny Gutzwiller (C2C 1st Team) Konrad Ziaja (C2C 1st Team), and Sebastian Carranza (C2C 1st Team). Lastly, the Pioneers would earn Region IX individual awards with Konrad Ziaja (2nd Team All Region and Academic All District), Danny Gutzwiller (2nd Team All Region) and Isaac Petersen (Academic All District).
Along with this, Corcoran also helped the Women’s Soccer team to an overall record of 10-3-5 (4-1-2 WIAC), contributing to setting numerous program records. This includes Goals Against Average (GAA) 0.833, fewest goals allowed in a season (15), highest finish in the WIAC in program history (2nd) and fewest losses in a season (3). The team would earn a bye and host the semi-final round of the WIAC Championships for the first time ever, winning 2-1. The team would also be recognized regionally by being ranked as high as #6 in Region IX in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. Regionally recognized individual awards would include Arianna Lombardi (2nd Team All Region), Lydia Smith (3rd Team All Region), Anna Spindle (Academic All-District) and Izzy Streeter (Academic All District). The Pioneers also pick up multiple All Conference Accolades with Arianna Lombardi (WIAC 1st Team), Lydia Smith (WIAC 1st Team), Madison Way (WIAC HM) and Anna Spindle (WIAC HM).
Corcoran was formerly the University of Dubuque Men's Soccer Assistant Coach, before taking over Head Coaching duties between March 2022 and August 2022. Tom prior to UD spent two years at Clarke University (NAIA), where he served as men's assistant coach and also the head girls coach at Dubuque Senior High School (2017-19).
As the University of Dubuque Spartans assistant coach, he was part of back-to-back American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Championships. UD would go 6-1-1 in the abbreviated spring 2021 season to claim the American Rivers Conference Championship. The UD coaching staff would earn American Rivers Conference Staff of the Year, United Soccer Coaches DIII North Region Staff of the Year, and United Soccer Coaches DIII Men's National Staff of the Year. In the fall of 2021, he helped guide a team which finished the conference season undefeated, a perfect 8-0 in league play and once again earning staff of the year for the Spartans. The Spartans would go on to earn numerous All-American, All Region and All-Conference awards.
Before joining the Pioneers, Tom also formally served in the role of Director of Senior Academy for the Dubuque Soccer Club between the summer of 2022 and summer 2023, where he oversaw the U13 to U18 Boys and Girls teams.
As Head Coach of the Girls Soccer Team at Dubuque Senior High School, the Rams would go 10-6 in the 2018 season and 12-5 in the 2019 season. Totaling the two best seasons in program history to date. This would result in Corcoran earning MVC Coach of the Year honors in 2018.
He also spent the 2016-17 season as the Men's and Women's Soccer assistant at the University of Wisconsin - Superior. While there, he helped guide the UW-Superior men's team to an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament finals appearance.
Corcoran was a four-year starter at The College of St Scholastica. Earning All-Conference and All North Region honors in the 2013, 2014 and the 2015 seasons, helping the team to four UMAC regular and tournament conference titles and four NCAA Tournament appearances. He received his bachelor's degree in Management and Marketing from The College of St Scholastica. Corcoran also spent those years coaching boys and girls at Gitchi Gummi Soccer Club in Duluth, MN as head coach.
He was also a regular starter for Duluth FC in the NPSL North Conference, claiming a North Conference Championship in 2017, Midwest Championship in 2018, along with a National Semifinal appearance in the same season.
He earned his Master of Organizational Leadership from Clarke University in May 2019 and Master in Management - Sport Management in 2022 from the University of Dubuque. Tom currently holds an USSF 'C' License.
