Four Pioneers Earn All-Region Honors
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Four members of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team were named to the 2024 United Soccer Coaches NCAA DIII All-Region Team on Tuesday afternoon. Junior Danny Gutzwiller led the group with First Team honors, while junior Seth Aiken and senior Alex Wano were tabbed Second Team. Junior Ethan Dietrich picked up Third Team All-Region recognition.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Four members of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team were named to the 2024 United Soccer Coaches NCAA DIII All-Region Team on Tuesday afternoon. Junior Danny Gutzwiller led the group with First Team honors, while junior Seth Aiken and senior Alex Wano were tabbed Second Team. Junior Ethan Dietrich picked up Third Team All-Region recognition.
Gutzwiller tied for the team lead in goals scored with seven, joining his All-Region teammates in Wano and Dietrich atop the Pioneers leaderboard. The midfielder finished with 45 shots, which tied Dietrich for most of the team, and his 23 shots on goal were five more than any other Pioneer. Gutzwiller went a perfect 3-for-3 on penalty kicks on the season, and two of his seven goals resulted in game-winners.
Aiken posted a record of 10-2-3 across his 16 starts while allowing just 0.55 goals per game, which ranked 11th in NCAA DIII. The junior goalkeeper allowed just eight total goals and finished with a .805 save percentage with 33 saves. Aiken recorded eight shutouts and allowed just four goals across his final 10 starts on the season.
Wano helped anchor a Pioneers backline that allowed just 0.56 goals per game, a mark that ranked 10th in NCAA DIII. The senior also provided seven goals on the offensive end, which tied for the Pioneers team lead. Eleven of his 18 shots finished on frame, and Wano added three assists, good for fourth-most on the team. Wano was part of several big goals throughout the UW-Platteville season, including assisting on the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Gustavs Adolphus in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.
Dietrich finished with a team-high 22 points, scoring seven goals and adding a team-leading eight assists. The forward tied Gutzwiller for the team lead in shots with 45, and he was second with 18 shots on goal. Dietrich opened the 2024 season strong, scoring four goals with another four assists across the Pioneers first five games of the season.
