Pioneers Dealt 1-0 Loss In WIAC Championship
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team (13-2-3, 4-2-0 WIAC) were dealt a 1-0 loss to UW-Eau Claire (15-1-4, 6-0-1 WIAC) in the WIAC Tournament Championship game on Sunday afternoon from Simpson Field in Eau Claire.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (13-2-3, 4-2-0 WIAC) were dealt a 1-0 loss to UW-Eau Claire (15-1-4, 6-0-1 WIAC) in the WIAC Tournament Championship game on Sunday afternoon from Simpson Field in Eau Claire.
The game's only goal came in the 20th minute of the first half as the Blugolds found the back of the net in what would prove to be the game-winner.
The Pioneers finished with a 9-8 advantage in shots, but UW-Eau Claire led in shots on goal 6-4. Junior Ethan Dietrich and sophomore Justin Williams paced UW-Platteville in shots with two apiece.
Junior goalkeeper Seth Aiken was handed the loss in net, just his second loss of the season. He finished with five saves, including four in the first half, on six shots faced.
The Blugolds were able to battle through a first half red card that had them playing down a man for the final 55 minutes.
The win for UW-Eau Claire secures both the WIAC regular season and tournament championship. The Blugolds secure the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament with the victory.
