Pioneers Roll In Shutout Win In WIAC Semifinal
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team (13-1-3, 4-1-0 WIAC) shutout UW-River Falls (8-11-0, 3-2-0 WIAC) by a score of 4-0 on Friday night in the WIAC Tournament Semifinal inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (13-1-3, 4-1-0 WIAC) shutout UW-River Falls (8-11-0, 3-2-0 WIAC) by a score of 4-0 on Friday night in the WIAC Tournament Semifinal inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
With the win, the Pioneers advance to the WIAC Championship game on Sunday against UW-Eau Claire, who beat UW-Whitewater 4-0 to earn the trip to the championship. Sunday's game will take place at 1 p.m. in Eau Claire.
Senior Jacob Keller opened the scoring for the Pioneers with his second goal of the season in the 37th minute of the first half. Junior Alester Dawson picked up the assist on the goal, and the Pioneers carried the 1-0 lead into the break.
UW-Platteville's offense broke through for three goals in the second half, with junior Sebastian Carranza scoring the first in the 65th minute following a pass from sophomore Brady Harwood. In the 79th minute, junior Danny Gutzwiller had a slow roller sneak in for his seventh goal of the season to increase the Pioneers lead to 3-0. Junior Zac Monnett earned the assist on the goal.
The Pioneers final goal of the match came in the 84th minute on freshman Westley Hankes second of the season. Carranza was credited with the assist, giving him a goal and an assist in the win.
UW-Platteville dominated possession for much of the match and held a large advantage in scoring opportunities. The shot totals were in favor of the Pioneers 24-1, with 15 of UW-Platteville's shot coming in the second half. Gutzwiller paced the team with six shots, while Carranza added four.
Junior goalkeeper Seth Aiken collected the win and his third straight shutout. The Pioneers defense held the Falcons to just the one shot and no shots on goal in the match.
