Pioneers Draw With Wartburg Tuesday
WAVERLY, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team (10-1-3) overcame an early two-goal deficit to draw 3-3 with Wartburg (7-4-4) on Tuesday night from Salzwedel Field in Waverly, Iowa.

WAVERLY, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (10-1-3) overcame an early two-goal deficit to draw 3-3 with Wartburg (7-4-4) on Tuesday night from Salzwedel Field in Waverly, Iowa.
The Knights jumped out to an early two-goal lead by scoring in the eighth and 16th minutes of the match. Senior Isaac Petersen cut the Pioneers deficit in half in the 21st minute with his third goal in the past four games. The assist on the goal was credited to senior Clayton Mobile, his fourth on the season.
Junior Ethan Dietrich netted his seventh goal of the season and tied the match at two apiece in the 26th minute of the first half following a pass from sophomore Justin Williams. The game remained even at two for the rest of the half, with Wartburg carrying a 6-4 advantage in shots across the opening 45 minutes.
In the 62nd minute, junior Danny Gutzwiller converted a penalty kick to put UW-Platteville in front, but the Knights knotted the game up again with a penalty kick of their own in the 83rd minute. Neither team scored again in the final seven minutes resulting in the 3-3 draw.
Wartburg outshot the Pioneers 12-10 for the match and 6-4 in shots on goal. Dietrich and Gutzwiller paced UW-Platteville with three shots each.
In goal, junior Seth Aiken finished with three saves on six shots faced. He made a pair of saves in the second half, including one in the final minute to keep the game tied.
The Pioneers return home on Friday night to take on UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m. in a battle for the Shaymus Guinn Cup.
