Pioneers Score Nine Times In Shutout Win
MENOMONIE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team (8-1-2, 1-1 WIAC) scored four goals in the first half and another five in the second half to beat UW-Stout (2-11-0, 0-2-0 WIAC) 9-0 on Saturday afternoon from Nelson Field in Menomonie, Wisconsin.

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (8-1-2, 1-1 WIAC) scored four goals in the first half and another five in the second half to beat UW-Stout (2-11-0, 0-2-0 WIAC) 9-0 on Saturday afternoon from Nelson Field in Menomonie, Wisconsin.
The nine goals in the match are the most for the Pioneers men's soccer team since 2012, where they reached that mark on two separate occasions.
Junior Ethan Dietrich put the Pioneers in front with his fifth goal of the season in the fifth minute of the contest. Senior Clayton Mobile earned the assist.
In the 20th minute, junior Sebastian Carranza scored his first of the match following a pass from junior Brock Jurinek to make it 2-0 in favor of UW-Platteville. The Pioneers would score two more goals in the final minutes of the first half, including junior Christian Diaz's second goal of the season.
Carranza increased the lead to five just after halftime on a penalty kick, and junior Daxton Foote (58th minute) and senior Isaac Petersen (60th) netted their first goals of the season in quick succession. Foote added an assist on Petersen's goal.
The final two goals of the match went to senior Jacob Keller in the 77th minute and freshman Evan Yount in the 84th minute.
UW-Platteville finished with a 32-2 advantage in total shots, including 16-0 in shots on frame. Thirteen different players attempted at least one shot for the Pioneers, led by seven from junior Danny Gutzwiller.
Junior Seth Aiken collected the win in goal after getting the start and playing the first half. Seniors Lucas Cisneros and Chase Werner took over in the second half and played the remainder of the game.
The Pioneers will head to Dubuque on Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. match.
