Pioneers Roll Past Oles Behind First Half Goal
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team (7-1-2) took down the defending Division III National Champion St. Olaf Oles (8-4-1) by a score of 1-0 on Tuesday night from Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (7-1-2) took down the defending Division III National Champion St. Olaf Oles (8-4-1) by a score of 1-0 on Tuesday night from Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
The game's lone goal came in the 37th minute of the first half as senior Alex Wano gathered a failed clear attempt before blasting a shot into the back of the net. The goal was his fifth of the season, and senior Isaac Peterson and junior Kellen Klosterman were credited with assists.
In the second half, the Oles put more pressure on the Pioneers defense, but failed to break through on any of their 12 shot attempts. Junior goalkeeper Seth Aiken made four saves in the second half to maintain the Pioneers one goal edge, and he collected the win and the shutout after making five total saves in the contest.
The Pioneers snapped the Oles seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1) and the win was UW-Platteville's first over St. Olaf in program history. Entering the match, St. Olaf was ranked third in the United Soccer Coaches Region IX poll, while the Pioneers came in at sixth.
St. Olaf finished with a 15-10 advantage in total shots and 5-3 mark in shots on frame. Senior Clayton Mobile and Klosterman joined Wano with shots on goal for UW-Platteville.
The Pioneers hit the road for their second conference game of the season on Saturday against UW-Stout at 1 p.m.
