Pioneers Drop Conference Opener To Blugolds
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Playing in its first WIAC match since 2013, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team (6-1-2, 0-1-0 WIAC) fell 2-0 at Simpson Field against UW-Eau Claire (9-1-2, 1-0-0 WIAC) on Friday night.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Playing in its first WIAC match since 2013, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (6-1-2, 0-1-0 WIAC) fell 2-0 at Simpson Field against UW-Eau Claire (9-1-2, 1-0-0 WIAC) on Friday night.
The Blugolds scored in the fourth minute of the contest and the score remained 1-0 for the rest of the opening half. UW-Eau Claire held a slight edge in shots for the first 45 minutes and both goalkeepers made a pair of saves.
In the second half, UW-Eau Claire added a second goal on a penalty kick in the 68th minute. The Pioneers attempted six shots in the half as they looked to cut into the deficit, but the Blugolds back line held strong.
For the match, UW-Platteville was outshot 14-11, including 4-3 in shots on goal. Eight different players had a shot for the Pioneers, with senior Clayton Mobile, junior Cael Harris, and freshman Aiden Hatleberg tallying the three shots on frame.
In goal, junior Seth Aiken was charged with the loss after stopping two of the four shots he faced.
The Pioneers return home on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match against St. Olaf.
