DECORAH, Iowa – Senior Alex Wano scored with just 14 seconds left as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (3-0-1) drew with Luther (1-2-2) on Wednesday night from Luther College Soccer Field in Decorah, Iowa.
Scoring opportunities were limited in the first half, with the Pioneers and Norse combining for just five total shots. Sophomore Justin Williams and senior Isaac Petersen each had a shot on goal for UW-Platteville in the half, but both chances were turned away.
Luther broke through in the second half, scoring in the 59th minute to move in front. The game remained 1-0 in favor of the Norse for almost the rest of the game, but Wano managed to secure the draw for the Pioneers with his goal in the final seconds. Junior Daxton Foote earned the assist as his corner kick pass found Wano's head for the goal.
UW-Platteville held a 12-5 advantage in total shots for the match, including 7-3 in shots on goal. Seven different Pioneers had a shot on goal, while junior Ethan Dietrich, junior Zac Monnett, and Petersen led the team with two shots each.
Senior goalkeeper Lucas Cisneros stopped two of the three shots he faced to earn the draw in net.
The Pioneers return home for the first time since the season opener to take on Marian (Wis.) on Saturday afternoon. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
