DULUTH, Minn. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (3-0-0) continued its early season success with a 2-1 road win over UW-Superior (0-1-2) on Saturday evening from Public School Stadium in Duluth, Minn.
Sophomore Justin Williams put the Pioneers on the board in the 15th minute of the first half with his first goal of the season. Junior Ethan Dietrich picked up the assist after his crossing pass found the head of Williams, who put his shot past the keeper.
UW-Superior tied the game at one apiece less than a minute into the second half on a penalty kick. It didn't take too long for the Pioneers to regain the lead, as Dietrich collected a loose ball and fired a shot from just outside the box that deflected off a Yellowjackets defended and into the right side of the goal.
UW-Platteville maintained the one goal lead for the remainder of the game to earn a third consecutive win to start the season.
Senior goalkeeper Lucas Cisneros was big in the win for the Pioneers, stopping five of the six shots he faced. UW-Platteville got outshot in the contest 10-9 and 6-4 in shots on goal.
The Pioneers hit the road on Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. start against Luther.
*As with every UW-Platteville win this year, the Platteville A&W will be offering a $3 Pioneer burger the day after the win and the Platteville Taco John's will be offering 10 tacos for $10 the day after each Pioneer win.
