DULUTH, Minn. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (2-0-0) scored twice in each half to beat St. Scholastica (0-3-0) 4-0 on Friday evening from Kenny Harkins Field in Duluth, Minnesota.
The Pioneers got on the board early, as junior Ethan Dietrich scored his first goal of the season in the ninth minute. Dietrich took a long shot from about 25 yards out near the left sideline that went over the reach of the Saints keeper.
In the 16th minute, junior Sebastian Carranza made it 2-0 after the Pioneers foiled a clear attempt by St. Scholastica. UW-Platteville kept the ball on the attacking end and senior Clayton Mobile headed an attempt on goal that deflected off the crossbar and into the air. Carranza tracked it down and punched the ball home in front of the left post.
UW-Platteville scored twice in the closing minutes of the second half to increase the lead to four. In the 85th minute, junior Danny Gutzwiller headed in a cross from Dietrich and in the 87th minute, junior Keith Gardner scored on a pass from sophomore Justin Williams.
