PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Following a strong campaign that saw the team advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team will compete in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this fall for the first time since 2014.
The WIAC welcomes back men's soccer after previously sponsoring the sport from 2009-14. Six teams will compete in the conference this year, with new programs UW-Stevens Point, UW-Stout, and UW-River Falls joining established programs in UW-Platteville, UW-Eau Claire, and UW-Whitewater.
The Pioneers return to the WIAC after competing the past two season in the Coast-to-Coast Conference. UW-Platteville went 14-3-5 last year and advanced to the C2C Tournament Championship game under first-year head coach Jesse Tinney. Tinney gets 28 letterwinners back from a year ago along with eight starters as the Pioneers look to make a third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Junior Danny Gutzwiller, who was named Second Team All-Region and All-C2C last season, returns totaling 13 points and five assists across 13 games played. First Team All-C2C junior Sebastian Carranza also returns after pacing the team with seven goals and 16 points.
Last year's C2C Rookie of the Year Justin Williams will patrol the midfield once again after tallying four goals and five assists across 22 games. Seniors Clayton Mobile and Lucas Schoeneberg join the lineup as experienced players for the Pioneers.
In goal, junior Seth Aiken returns after starting 19 games and allowing 17 goals. Aiken posted an 11-3-5 record with seven shutouts last season while securing 58 saves.
The Pioneers 2024 season begins in a week when they host MSOE on Friday, August 30 at 7:30 p.m. The first WIAC matchup will be at UW-Eau Claire on Friday, October 4.
