Pioneers Blank Hornets For Second Win
WHEATON, Ill. – Behind a pair of second-half goals, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team improved to 2-0-0 on the season with a 2-0 win over Kalamazoo on Saturday evening at Wheaton’s Bob Baptista Invitational.

WHEATON, Ill. – Behind a pair of second-half goals, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team improved to 2-0-0 on the season with a 2-0 win over Kalamazoo on Saturday evening at Wheaton's Bob Baptista Invitational.
Following a scoreless first half, sophomore Sebastian Carranza put the Pioneers ahead 1-0 in the 53rd minute with his first goal of the season. Carranza finished a corner kick from sophomore Ethan Dietrich with a header that found the back of the net.
UW-Platteville added another second half goal to increase the lead on junior Marcelo Garay's first goal of the campaign. Junior Clayton Mobile was credited with the assist after his cross allowed Garay to fire the ball into the bottom left corner.
The Pioneers outshot Kalamazoo 10-8, including 4-2 in shots on frame. Carranza and Garay each recorded two attempts on goal in the match.
In goal, sophomore Seth Aiken improved to 2-0-0 on the season by making a pair of saves to record the shutout.
UW-Platteville will play its 2023 home opener on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. when they host Luther.
