Tinney Announced as Men’s Soccer Head Coach
PLATTEVILLE, Wis – Jesse Tinney has been named the next head coach of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team, as announced today by Director of Athletics and Assistant Chancellor for Sports Administration Dr. Kristina Navarro.

"I am thrilled to announce Jesse Tinney as our next Head Men's Soccer Coach. Coach Tinney has a clear strategy to propel the program forward as a national powerhouse with a foundational understanding and focus on recruiting, retention, and revenue generation. He will continue to support our efforts to Pioneer Forward as a division focused on broad based competitive excellence," said Navarro.
Tinney takes the post after serving as assistant coach of the Pioneer men's and women's programs for the past two seasons and interim head coach for the past month.

During the Pioneers 2022 season, Tinney helped lead the team to an NCAA Tournament appearance with a 12-5-3 record. Tinney and the staff were also awarded the Coast-to-Coast Coaching Staff of the Year award. Several players also received numerous awards. The team accomplishments included Jack Gentilli earning his second All-Region and All-Wisconsin honors while also being All-Conference. Additionally, Danny Gutzwiller was named the Conference Rookie of the Year, while Konrad Ziaja, Clayton Lautenschlaeger, and Alester Dawson received All-Conference honors. Danny Gutzwiller, Konrad Ziaja, and Clayton Lautenschlaeger were also named to the All-Wisconsin team.
During Tinney's first season as an assistant coach, the men's team finished with an impressive 13-5-2 record. During the season, the team had its longest unbeaten streak in program history at 14 games. Other team accomplishments included Jack Gentilli earning Third Team All-Region honors and being named Co-Wisconsin Offensive Player of the Year. Additionally, Chase Werner earned All-Wisconsin 2nd Team, Konrad Ziaja earned All-Wisconsin Honorable Mention and Lucas Schoeneberg also earned All-Wisconsin Honorable Mention.
Prior to Platteville, Tinney coached for Beadling Soccer club in Pittsburgh. He coached the club's youth academy teams and the 2008 boys age group. Under Tinney, the '08 team won the 2021 PA West State Cup and earned a spot in the USYS Eastern 2021 Regional Championships where they were finalists. Tinney's '08 team was selected to play in the MLS Next Developmental League in the 2021 Fall season. It was the club's first-ever team to participate in the league.
A Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native, Tinney graduated from Chartiers Valley High School where he was an All-Conference player and League All-Star. He served as a team captain and was a three-year letter- winner. He went on to a standout collegiate career playing as a midfielder for the University of Mount Union and played in a total of 70 games making 63 starts. During his 2018 season at Mount Union, the team reached its first-ever national rank (#13); highest ever regional rank (#2), and a team record of completing nine consecutive shutouts. He was voted Rookie of the Year by his teammates after the 2014 campaign. Tinney was also voted the team's Offensive MVP in two consecutive seasons, and the Overall MVP in 2016. He graduated from Mount Union in 2018 with undergraduate degrees in Marketing and Business Management.
Tinney currently holds a United States Soccer Federation C License and will complete his master's degree in Athletic Coaching in April of 2023 through the University of Mount Union's online graduate program.
