While the match was scoreless after the first half, the Pioneers maintained strong pressure on the Rams defense, attempting 19 shots and six on goal. UW-Platteville held Cornell without a shot in the first 45 minutes, instead controlling possession for most of the half.
Freshman Danny Gutziller finally broke through for the Pioneers in the 57th minute of the second half after placing a shot perfectly into the upper right corner from just outside the box. Just a couple minutes later, freshman Sebastian Carranza tallied his fifth goal of the season in the 60th minute on a penalty kick. In the 69th minute, Gutziller found the net for the second time of the match off a pass from sophomore Trevor Hudson to increase the UW-Platteville lead to three. The Pioneers tacked on two more in the closing minutes, with freshman Kellen Klosterman and sophomore Marcelo Garay each scoring their first goals of the season.
The Pioneers finished with a 33-1 advantage in shots, with 11 coming on goal. Gutzwiller finished with a team-high nine shots and four on goal, while junior Jack Gentilli totaled five shots. Sophomore Chase Werner collected the shutout in goal for his second win on the season.
