DECORAH, Iowa. – Two second half goals sent the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (10-2-1) to a 3-1 road victory over the #21-ranked Luther Norse (8-2-3) on Tuesday evening at Luther College Soccer Field.
The win pushes the Pioneers win streak to nine, which is tied for the second-longest winning streak in program history and one shy of the program mark.
Luther got on the board first, scoring in the 31st minute to take the lead. UW-Platteville responded quickly, scoring just 30 seconds later to even the game at one. Sophomore Konrad Ziaja found the back of the net for his second goal of the season while senior Mitch Reid was credited with the assist, his first of the campaign.
The game remained even for the next 40 minutes, with both teams getting some quality chances. The Pioneers broke through with the go-ahead goal in the 71st minute as sophomore Isaac Petersen scored his first goal of the season on assists from freshman Sebastian Carranza and sophomore Michael Schaefer. Just a minute later, UW-Platteville added another goal as freshman Danny Gutzwiller scored on a pass from Petersen to put the team two goals. Luther attempted four more shots in the closing minutes, but the Pioneers defense held the two-goal advantage for the win.
