Late Goal Sends Pioneers to Eighth Straight Win
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – A goal in the closing minutes propelled the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team (9-2-1) past the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons (5-3-4) by a score of 2-1 for its eighth straight win on Saturday afternoon inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneers Stadium.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – A goal in the closing minutes propelled the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (9-2-1) past the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons (5-3-4) by a score of 2-1 for its eighth straight win on Saturday afternoon inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneers Stadium.
Sophomore Lucas Schoeneberg put the Pioneers on the board early, scoring in the fourth minute on a pass from junior Jack Gentilli. The assist for Gentilli was his seventh of the season. UW-Platteville had a chance to add to the lead in the 16th minute, but the Falcons turned aside a penalty kick by sophomore Konrad Ziaja to keep it a one-goal game.
The Pioneers controlled possession for most of the first half and outshot Concordia Wisconsin 17-1 in the first 45 minutes. Falcons goalkeeper Mattson Wick stopped nine of the 10 shots on goal.
Concordia Wisconsin evened the score in the 51st minute of the second half. UW-Platteville kept the pressure on over the next 30 minutes, attempting nine shots, with the best chance being a team save on a shot by freshman Danny Gutzwiller.
Gentilli broke through for the Pioneers in the 85th minute to give the home team a one-goal advantage. The goal, Gentilli's seventh of the season, was assisted by Schoeneberg.
UW-Platteville outshot Concordia Wisconsin 27-6 including 14-4 in shots on goal. Gentilli finished with six shots to lead to the team while Gutzwiller added five shots. Freshman Seth Aiken collected the win in goal, stopping three shots.
The Pioneers look to continue the winning streak as they travel to play Luther on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.
