Late Goal Propels Pioneers Past Storm
INDIANOLA, Iowa – Junior Jack Gentilli scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the second half as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team won 3-2 over Simpson on Friday night inside Buxton Stadium.

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Junior Jack Gentilli scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the second half as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team won 3-2 over Simpson on Friday night inside Buxton Stadium.
The Pioneers improved to 3-2-1 on the season with the win. UW-Platteville has now won three of the past four games.
Gentilli opened the scoring for the Pioneers in the seventh minute, blasting a shot past the keeper off a pass from sophomore Alex Wano. Simpson answered with two goals in the 23rd and 27th minutes to take a 2-1 lead.
UW-Platteville answered right before halftime in the 38th minute, as freshman Sebastian Carranza scored his first goal of the season to tie the game. Jacob Keller and Mitch Reid assisted on the goal.
In the second half, both teams had scoring chances early, including a penalty kick for the Pioneers, but neither team could find the back of the net. Gentilli broke the tie in the 70th minute with his fourth goal of the season, dribbling around a defender following a pass from sophomore Clayton Mobile and scoring with his left foot.
The Storm attempted two shots on goal in the closing minutes, but sophomore goalkeeper Chase Werner turned aside both attempts.
UW-Platteville outshot Simpson 17-8 including 9-4 in shots on goal. Gentilli and Carranza each recorded four shots to pace the Pioneers. Werner picked up the win in net, stopping both shots he faced in the second half.
The Pioneers return to Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 18 when they host Albion at 12 p.m.
