WAUKESHA, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team defeated the Pioneers of Carroll University 3-1 on Tuesday night at Schneider Stadium.
UW-Platteville improves to 1-2 on the season while Carroll also moves to 1-2 with the loss.
The home Pioneers opened the scoring early with a goal in the second minute of action.
The early lead would be the only time Carroll would hold the advantage on the night. UW-Platteville tied the match in the 21st minute with a goal by sophomore Trevor Hudson off a pass from freshman Danny Gutzwiller. A second goal followed nine minutes later as freshman Alester Dawson scored his second goal of the season with an assist from junior Jack Gentilli.
UW-Platteville added insurance right off the start of the second half on a penalty kick in the 47th minute. A yellow card on Carroll's Matthew Meke on a UW-Platteville corner kick set sophomore Clayton Mobile for the PK where the Pioneer fired one to the far right to pull ahead 3-1.
Platteville dominated the night holding a 16-2 advantage in shots overall and 8-1 in shots on goal along with a 16-2 edge in corner kicks.
UW-Platteville's freshman Seth Aiken registered one save after 90 minutes in the goal.
The Pioneers will return to action this Saturday, Sept. 10 when they face Saint John's University in the home opener at 6 p.m. in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
*As with every UW-Platteville win this year, the Platteville A&W will be offering a $3 Pioneer burger the day after the win and the Platteville Taco John's will be offering 10 tacos for $10 the day after each Pioneer win.
