MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team fell 3-1 in its season opener at MSOE on Thursday night at Viets Field in Milwaukee.
The Pioneers got off to a hot start, as freshman Alester Dawson scored in the second minute. Dawson collected the ball following a failed clear attempt from the Raiders and blasted a shot into the upper right corner.
MSOE responded with two goals in the 18th and 36th minutes of the first half to take a lead at the break.
The Raiders added a goal in 71st minute of the second half to extend the lead to two, which stymied the Pioneers chance to even the game.
UW-Platteville held the advantage in shots at 14-11 while the Raiders led 6-4 in shots on goal. MSOE's defense tightened in the second half, holding the Pioneers to just four total shots and only one on target in the final 45 minutes.
Dawson, sophomores Lucas Godon and Michael Schaefer, and junior Jack Gentilli each recorded two shots to lead the team. In goal, Chase Werner tallied three saves on six shots faced.
Following a day off, the Pioneers travel to Eau Claire on Saturday, Sept. 3 for a 7 p.m. match against the Blugolds at Simpson Field.
