Pioneers remain unbeaten in last eight after 3-0 shutout over Knox
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team shutout Knox College 3-0 Wednesday afternoon in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium. The Pioneers (6-2-2) remain unbeaten in the last eight games and snapped the Prairie Fire’s (6-5-0) five-game winning streak.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team shutout Knox College 3-0 Wednesday afternoon in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium. The Pioneers (6-2-2) remain unbeaten in the last eight games and snapped the Prairie Fire's (6-5-0) five-game winning streak.
"Today was a good test for our team," said Director of Soccer Sam Koenig. "Knox is a team in recent years playing in the NCAA tournament. It was a hard-fought game and we were most importantly able to get a shutout today. Unbeaten in eight and now it is time to get ready for Sunday!"
The Pioneers controlled the day recording 20 shots with 15 on goal while Knox totaled six with five on goal. UW-Platteville also had an 8-4 advantage on corner kicks. Knox accumulated 11 fouls while the Pioneers registered eight.
The Pioneers first jumped on the scoreboard in the 26th minute with a goal by sophomore Jack Gentilli (5), assisted by freshman Clayton Lautenschlaeger. Just three minutes later, freshman Quincy Ott's corner kick was headed in by freshman Isaac Petersen for his first career goal.
The 2-0 lead stuck through halftime and freshman Michael Schaefer added the insurance goal in the 65th minute for another Pioneer's first career goal.
Freshman Chase Werner totaled four saves in goal for UW-Platteville.
The Pioneers will return to action and Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 10 with the game against Concordia Wisconsin set for 1 p.m.
