Pioneers drop first road contest to Johnnies
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team traveled to Minnesota this weekend for a pair a games which started off Saturday against Saint John’s University. The Johnnies (1-1-0) defeated the Pioneers (0-2-0) 2-0 on Haws Field.

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team traveled to Minnesota this weekend for a pair a games which started off Saturday against Saint John's University. The Johnnies (1-1-0) defeated the Pioneers (0-2-0) 2-0 on Haws Field.
Saint John's struck first early when Brian Real Juarez found Drew Engel at the 6:31 mark. The two teams combined for just four more shots in the first half to take it to the second frame with the Johnnies holding a 1-0 advantage.
The Pioneers owned four of the six shots taken in the first 28 minutes of the second half, but Saint John's Ryan Erickson found the back of the net with a pass from Kaidan Popp to take it to a 2-0 lead. Both teams tallied one more shot before the 90th minute and the Saint John's victory.
Sophomore Jack Gentilli led the Pioneers with two shots, both on goal. Overall St. John's held a a narrow 8-7 shots advantage on the day.
Freshman keeper Lucas Cisneros recorded two saves while Evan Siefken of St. John's stepped up five times.
Next up, the Pioneers will travel to Minnesota-Morris for the second game of the weekend trip. Game time on Sunday is set for noon.
