An Elburn, Illinois native, Mathys graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa with a bachelor's degree in History and a minor in Political Science. During his tenure as a goalkeeper with the program, Mathys helped lead the Dutch to their first conference title and NCAA tournament berth in school history in 2019. During that season, the Dutch knocked off nationally-ranked Luther (#8) and Loras (#9) in back-to-back games to catapult themselves into their first and highest regional rank (#1) and later their first and highest national rank (#12). Mathys racked up three conference player of the week awards, along with All-Conference and All-Region awards in 2019. After college, Mathys returned home and served as an assistant coach for the men's soccer program at Dekalb High school while also playing Semi-Pro for Dekalb County United in the Midwest Premier League.
"I am thrilled for the opportunity to join the Pioneer soccer staff and contribute to the winning tradition at UW-Platteville," said Mathys.
While coaching at UW-Platteville, Mathys will also be pursuing a master's degree in Sport Administration. He will join assistant coaches Jesse Tinney, Eliza Denmeade, and Christian Alvarado.
