MORRIS, Minn. – The UW-Platteville Pioneers finished off their weekend trip to Minnesota with a 3-0 shutout at Minnesota Morris.
Senior Brad Strobel started the day off with a goal in the 17th minute off a loose ball in front of the net and the Pioneers' 1-0 lead would hold through to the second half.
Teon Fountain went on to go one on one with the Minn. Morris keeper off a pass from Mason Spang to put the Pioneers ahead 2-0 in the 57th minute. Nick Konopacki wrapped up the scoring for the day with a third goal made on a loose ball in front of the net off a free kick. Ben Geible was credited on the assist.
The Pioneers dominated shots taken for the day, holding a 20-1 advantage over the Cougars. Minn. Morris' lone shot was on goal and Pioneer goalkeeper Nate Miller concluded the game with one save while the Cougars' keeper, Jake Peterson, finished the day with 10 saves.
Sunday afternoon's victory now leaves the Pioneers with a 6-0-1 record for the season while Minn. Morris falls to 1-6-2. UW-Platteville's next game is set for Thursday, Sept. 27 in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
