AURORA, Ill. - The UW-Platteville Pioneers kept the streak alive Friday night with a 2-1 victory over Aurora University, advancing the Pioneers to a 4-0 overall record.
The action started fast for both teams and did not dwindle until time expired. The dual was even matched with both teams taking three shots in the first half and the Pioneers edging the Spartans 5-4 in the second half.
The Pioneers jumped into the lead right away when a Spartan penalty allowed Nick Hoklas to line up for a free kick and put the Pioneers on the board 1-0 in the fifth minute of pay. The game evened out shortly after with an Aurora goal by Nicholas Rohl after a cross to center from teammate Jacob Lysik at the 8:11 mark.
The first half continued as a defensive battle between the two teams and the Pioneers and Spartans finished the half 1-1.
The tied battle continued into the second half until senior Logan Rinderknecht struck off a loose ball in the middle of the box to give UW-Platteville the 2-1 lead in the 61st minute.
Soon after the Pioneers took the lead for the second time of the night, an Aurora red card in the 62nd minute put the Spartans at a one-man disadvantage and the Pioneers defended the lead until the conclusion of the game.
UW-Platteville finished the Friday night competition with eight shots including five put on frame. The Pioneers had a 2-1 advantage with corner kicks and goalkeeper Nate Miller tallied four saves for the evening.
