The University of Wisconsin-Platteville (8-2-1) got ahead early on Luther College (6-3-2) and fought a defensive battle the rest of the way. After a great run at the goal by Logan Rinderknecht the Pioneers were rewarded with a corner kick in the 3rd minute of the game. Ivan Khamenka took advantage by hooking a perfect ball in front of the goal which was deflected by Lucas Applin just out of the goal keepers reach. The goal was Applin's first goal of the year and gave UW-Platteville a 1-0 lead which they held onto until the 85th minute.
The regionally fourth ranked Norse managed to even the score on a header sending UW-Platteville into their first overtime game of the season. Goal keeper Nate Miller came up with two saves in the first 10 minute overtime giving the Pioneers a chance in a second overtime, but neither team was able to get any offense going ending the game 1-1.
The Pioneers return to action at Central College on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 4 p.m.
