PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team signified their top-tier talent with a win over the No. 17 UW-Oshkosh Titans on Saturday, 3-2.
The Titans started the scoring within first two minutes of the match with a rebound goal from a deflected header. The Pioneers' Jon Stopple answered back about six minutes later with an unassisted goal from the right side of the box. At the 31:25 mark, Caleb Rindfleisch received a pass from Stopple across the box and kicked it in to take a 2-1 Pioneer lead. Under two minutes later UW-Oshkosh evened the score and sent the teams into the break tied at two.
Following an offensively aggressive first period, it was a stagnant defensive battle in the second. With under eight minutes left to play Wyatt Gilson stole the ball from a Titan opponent, cleared a shot and scored the unassisted winning goal from 20 yards out to win the game, 3-2. The goal was Gilson's first of the year.
Stopple now shares a team-high in goals at six as well as in assists at three. The team averages a phenomenal 17 shots per game, score 2.2 goals per contest and allow a mere 1.07 goals.
The Pioneers will try to continue their win streak as they return to Pioneer Stadium on Oct. 20 to take on Wartburg College at 7:30p.m.
